Phonics Teaching
Phonics teaching is a method of teaching children how to read by getting them to memorize sounds and their attached letters. So the child will learn the sounds of the consonants, the sounds of short vowels, composite letter sounds such as "sh" and "ch", and then a series of other rules. This simplifies the earlier stages of reading, and allows children to spell out words in sounds.
The advantage of this method is that children will be reading words very early on in the process, so allowing them to see the progress they make. This form of learning to read can be readily helped by the use of reading games, particularly online and interactive games.
Your child needs to learn to read at an early age, because this helps with later education. You can really help by getting your child involved in reading games and in phonics teaching practice - after all, reading is about memory and comprehension, both processes that need constant repetition.
Good reading games are fun for your child as well. They will have a section that you can read to understand the principles behind them, and what you can do to help you child. Many children find these games so much fun that they will play them outside their learning time, absorbing knowledge whilst enjoying themselves.
